Five "Valladolid" fans have been brought to court for insulting "Real" football player Vinicius Junior. The incident occurred on December 30, 2022, at the end of the "Valladolid" - "Real" match of the 15th round of the 2022/23 season of La Liga. As Vinicius was substituted and moved towards the bench of substitutes, the fans used expressions such as "damned monkey", "nigger", "damned homosexual" against him.
Sport24.az reports with reference to "Marca" that the defendants were sentenced to one year in prison, a ban on attending football matches for four years, and a fine of 1080 to 1620 euros.
The Valladolid provincial court has officially announced its decision. The prison sentence has been replaced with a suspended sentence, as the defendants have promised not to commit similar offenses in the next three years and not to go to La Liga games.
This incident is the first court decision in the history of Spanish football in which racist behavior displayed in a stadium is assessed as a hate crime.
