Today is the anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Professional Football League (PFL). Sport24.az reports that the organization, which was established on July 2, 2008, turns 17 years old.
The PFL was founded 17 years ago by the former president of AFFA, Rovnag Abdullayev. The first head of the organization was Ramin Musayev. Since the summer of 2022, the president of the PFL has been Elkhan Samadov.
The organization, celebrating its birthday, has been holding domestic competitions for these 17 years. Since its establishment, the PFL, which organizes the Azerbaijan Premier League, I League (formerly I Division) and the Azerbaijan Cup, has also made a number of innovations. The Reserve League and the II League have been restored after many years, and the Region League is held. Also, during these years, the level of the championship has increased significantly, as a result of which our clubs have performed more successfully in the international arena and have repeatedly advanced to the group stage of European cups.
