An interview with "Qarabağ"'s Brazilian midfielder Pedro Bikalyon by Futbolinfo.az
– You are one of the new transfers that "Qarabağ" has added to its squad this summer. How is your adaptation process going? How much time will it take for you to fully adapt to the team and the team's playing style?
– The adaptation process is going very positively. Both the football players and the coaches – the club as a whole welcomed me very well. Of course, every adaptation takes time, especially to understand all the tactical details of the team. But I believe I am on the right track. I feel more comfortable from training to training, from game to game. I think I will fully adapt in a very short time.
– You lost in 3 of the 4 test matches you played in the Austrian training camp. It is true that the result does not matter in test matches. In any case, do these results worry you?
– No, it doesn't bother me. We know that test matches are mainly for testing tactical structures, increasing the adaptation of players to each other, and restoring the game rhythm. Of course, we would like to win, but the main goal is to be fully prepared for official matches. We are working in this direction and we are sure that we will improve.
– "Qarabağ" will start the fight in the Champions League from the 2nd qualifying round. How do you rate your chances of advancing to the next stage?
– I believe in our team very much. We know that Champions League games are always difficult, regardless of the opponent. But "Qarabağ" is a club with experience and tradition in this tournament. With activity and concentration, we have every chance to advance to the next stage.
– Last season, "Qarabağ" advanced to the League stage of the European League and finished last in that stage. Will "Qarabağ" be able to achieve better results in European cups this season?
– Yes, I believe in that. The club learns from every international experience. This season, the squad is stronger and the team has matured even more. This will allow us to perform more stably and competitively. Our goal is to properly represent both "Qarabağ" and Azerbaijani football in Europe.
– What is your initial impression of head coach Gurban Gurbanov? How is he different from the coaches you have worked with so far?
– He is a very smart coach, knows the club well and has a clear tactical vision. He loves discipline, high-tempo play and organization. What surprises me the most is that he can get the maximum out of the players, both individually and collectively. He is a very respected leader and I am learning a lot from him.
– Many Brazilian football players have played and are playing for "Qarabağ" so far. In your opinion, what is the reason for Gurban Gurbanov's preference for "samba dancers"?
– I think this is due to the quick adaptation of Brazilian players, their technical quality and competitive spirit. The head coach is able to use these features in accordance with his game philosophy. At the same time, the club's environment further facilitates this adaptation.
