The Amsterdam Court of Appeal will hold its next hearing today in the case of Quincy Promes. At this meeting, scheduled for March 17, the footballer's lawyers will consider their next motion for his early release or release pending the appeal process.
Idman.Biz reports that court spokeswoman Melissa Zeylstra said that the date of the main hearings on the merits of the case has not yet been determined. The current meetings only concern the change of the footballer's pre-trial detention or the conditions of detention.
Let us remind you that Quincy Promes was sentenced to a total of 7.5 years in prison in the Netherlands in two separate criminal cases - drug smuggling (6 years) and stabbing his cousin (1.5 years). The football player, who hid in Russia for a long time and was extradited to his country in June 2025 after being detained in the UAE, is currently in prison.
Although Promes' lawyers requested his release, citing that he has five children and his financial situation is deteriorating, the court rejected previous petitions, stating that the possibility of his escape is high.
It should be noted that the 34-year-old attacker, who played for clubs such as Spartak Moscow, Ajax, Sevilla and Twente during his career, played 50 games for the Netherlands national team and scored seven goals.
