"Neftchi"'s veteran football player, former head coach Kazbek Tuaev, was a guest of the club at the "Palms Sports" Football Center on the eve of his birthday. Sport24.az reports that Tuaev, who met with "Neftchi" PFK's chief executive officer Cenk Sümer, head coach Samir Abasov and media coordinator Rustam Afsarli, was presented with a commemorative gift on the occasion of his 85th anniversary.
At the meeting, which was also attended by specialist Boyukagha Agayev, who worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Tuaev for many years, there was an exchange of views on the current situation and future plans of "Neftchi". Later, the jubilee, who got acquainted with the football center, gave an extensive interview to "Neftchi TV".
Kazbek Tuaev was one of the best players of "Neftchi" both as a football player and as a head coach. Tuaev, who was born on November 13, 1940 in Alat, started playing football at the local "Lokomotiv" club. Later, the football player, who played for Baku "Lokomotiv" and Nalchik "Spartak", moved to "Neftchi" at the age of 21.
The "Number 7", who quickly became one of the main team members, is one of the main reasons for "Neftchi"'s greatest success during the USSR. It is no coincidence that in the 1966 season, when the "white-blacks" won a bronze medal, he was the team's top scorer, along with his productive passes. In total, the right winger, who appeared in 298 games in 11 seasons in "Neftchi", scored 60 important goals.
Kazbek Tuaev, one of the 12 football players who won a bronze medal in 1966, was the first football player in "Neftchi" to be included in the list of "33 best players" in the USSR. He repeated this success in 1963, 1966 and 1967. In 1967, he wore the uniform of the USSR national team in 3 games.
Kazbek Tuaev achieved even greater success as a head coach. After managing Nalchik "Spartak" and Lankaran "Khazar" during the USSR, the specialist, who took over the helm of his native "Neftchi", became the champion of Tunisia with "Club Africain", which he managed in 1987-1990. As the head coach of "Neftchi", he won the Azerbaijani championship 3 times and the national cup 2 times. It was under his leadership that the team won its first victory in European Cups in 1996 by defeating Sofia "Lokomotiv" 2:1 in the UEFA Cup, and in the 2003/2004 season, it advanced to the next stage for the first time by defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina's "Shiroki Briyeg" club. Tuaev also brought the first victory in official matches to our national team as a head coach. That match, when our national team defeated Switzerland 1:0 in August 1996, was engraved in memories.
