Idman.biz reports that this was stated by MP Vugar Iskandarov in his statement to Sportnet.az.
Iskandarov, who also serves as a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports, stated that he fully agrees with the views of AFFA Secretary General Jahangir Farajullayev: "The team's head coach himself should resign. He has not been able to form the national team in any way. Since his arrival, the national team has been demonstrating the weakest game it has ever shown. On the other hand, the lack of high morale in the team, the weakness of connections between players and lines, and the appearance of a kind of discouragement in the players clearly show that the head coach is not in his place."
The former athlete emphasized that head coach Fernando Santos should bear all responsibility in this matter:
"Of course, some people are trying to associate this with AFFA. For now, the national association's leadership is new, and their job is not only to work with the national team, but also to ensure and support the development of football in the country as a whole. Work is being done in the Premier League, I and II Leagues, Regional League, and children's leagues; there is a specific program. In this sense, the main issue at the moment is the national team's unsatisfactory performance. When we watch the team's game, it is clear to all of us that the head coach is not in his place. There is no coordination, no motivation, the style is not clear, and the relationships between lines and players are not in place. Each of these is visible during the game, and of course, they are all issues related to the head coach."
According to Iskandarov, the national team is killing the great strength, joy, and stimulus received from "Qarabag": "If we are showing such a game in a match with a weaker team in the group compared to France and Ukraine and losing by a large score, in a disgraceful form, then, of course, this causes a feeling of regret in each of us. Immediate work must be done in the national team, the coaching staff must be reviewed, a head coach living in Azerbaijan, constantly watching championship games, must be appointed, and he must approach the team based on the program he has set for himself. It is regrettable that none of these are visible at the moment. We believe that the AFFA leadership will take urgent and immediate measures and implement actions regarding these issues."
