Barcelona will face difficulties in acquiring Benfica defender Nicolas Otamendi in the winter transfer window.
Idman.Biz reports, citing Mundo Deportivo, that the Catalan club is considering transferring the 37-year-old Argentine footballer, but Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho has asked the club's management to complete negotiations on extending the player's contract as soon as possible.
The Portuguese head coach intends to prevent the player's move to "Blaugrana" in this way.
Nicolas Otamendi has been at Benfica since 2020, when he transferred from Manchester City for 15 million euros. His current contract with the Lisbon club runs until June 30, 2026. The defender has played 32 games this season, scored three goals and provided four assists.
