Martin Adam: "Azerbaijan national team has players playing in strong leagues"

- On June 10, the Azerbaijani national team will hold a friendly match with the Hungarian national team in Baku. What can you say about that match?

- This is a friendly game. The head coaches of both teams will try to test their new players and game plans. Such matches are a great opportunity for young players. If we look at the previous matches of the two national teams in the League of Nations and the games they have played among themselves to date, we can see that Hungary is the favorite. I believe that our players will cope with this task properly.

- How would you characterize the Azerbaijani national team?

- Most of the players of the Azerbaijani national team play for "Qarabag", the most famous team in your country. You also have several players playing in strong leagues such as South Korea, Poland and the 2nd Bundesliga. The coaching staff of the national team constantly relies on them.

- Our national team is coached by Portuguese experienced specialist Fernandu Santush. What do you think about him?

- Santush is a very experienced specialist. However, the Azerbaijani national team has not been able to win under his leadership. If we exclude the away game with Sweden and the game with Slovakia in Baku in the League of Nations, your team fought well in other matches. We saw progress in the home match against Estonia. That game ended in a draw.

- Do you think Fernandu Santush can achieve serious success in the Azerbaijani national team?

- I have no acquaintance with him. I have never played against the teams he leads. But in 2016, he became the European champion with the Portuguese national team and the winner of the League of Nations in the 2018-2019 season. He is a very successful specialist. I know that the results are not encouraging at the moment, but if the head coach is given some time, results can be achieved.

- Which Azerbaijani football players do you know?

- I know Mahir Emreli, he is a very talented football player. He has enough good experience in the international arena. He had a great season with "Nuremberg". I played against Anton Krivotsyuk in South Korea. I remember him as a good and tough left-back. Playing in strong leagues for three consecutive seasons says a lot. I wish the Azerbaijan national team success in future games. And I thank you separately for the interview.
