"It was an incredible feeling to return to the field after a two-month break. Unfortunately, it didn't last long. I had to leave the game prematurely due to injury, and that was, of course, very painful." Sport24.az reports that these words were noted by Azerbaijani national football player Mahir Emreli in a post on his personal "Instagram" account.
The football player, who also wears the national team's uniform, came on in the 63rd minute of the match against Herta (0:1) in the 12th round of the German 2nd Bundesliga as part of "Kaiserslautern", but was substituted in the 77th minute due to injury.
Emreli also clarified his tears in his post:
"The last few weeks have not been easy for me at all. First, little playing experience, then illness, and a week ago I lost my older brother (cousin) in a very difficult and tragic way. This game was supposed to be a moment of farewell to him for me. Unfortunately, everything turned out differently. Maybe that's why I couldn't hold back my tears. It felt like everything was piling up inside me.
After the doctor's examination, I will know exactly how long I will not be able to play. Despite all this, I maintain my optimism and hope to be back on the field soon. I don't lose either my faith or my motivation."
It should be noted that due to the injury, Mahir will not appear in the national team's matches against Iceland (November 13) and France (November 16) in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
