The reason why Azerbaijani strikers have not been able to become top scorers in recent years is that they do not play much.
This was stated by Khagani Mammadov, who was once the top scorer of the Azerbaijani championship.
The former striker also explained the reason why Azerbaijani top scorers cannot get into the top 10 with the limit.
"The reason why Azerbaijani strikers have not been able to become top scorers in recent years is that they do not play much. In addition, there is also the effect of the limit. That's why local football players are lost. These are the main reasons," he said in a statement to "Report".
The former football player of the national team emphasized the importance of paying attention to academies:
"Qarabag's striker Nariman Akhundzade is young. It may be that he is not very responsible in his work. But the main problem is the limit and giving less chance to locals. Academies should pay attention to the training of strikers in Azerbaijan. Because in some academies, they cannot train strikers at the level of not only Europe, but also Azerbaijan. Therefore, attention should be paid first of all to academies and coaches working there."
He also added that quality coaches should be preferred for training strikers:
"I wouldn't say that the fact that "Qarabag", our best club, pays more attention to the midfield line leads to the striker problem in Azerbaijani football. Because if strikers other than Nariman grow up in "Qarabag"'s academy today, they can play them. But unfortunately, strikers do not come out of academies. Quality coaches should be given place in academies to train European-level strikers."
It should be noted that currently only two Azerbaijani midfielders - Toral Bayramov and Emin Mahmudov - are in the top 10 of the list of top scorers of the Misli Premier League. Bayramov scored 7 goals, while Mahmudov scored 5 times against the opponent's goal.
