"The national team players are not in ideal athletic shape. It was clear in the game against Iceland that they cannot fulfill tactical and technical tasks." Kamal Bayramov said this in his statement to Sport24.az.
The veteran goalkeeper shared his expectations for the national team's match against the Ukrainian team as part of the D-2026 qualifying round:
"In the squad called up to the national team, 6 players play stably in their teams, the rest do not. If we make any decisions, we must think about our national team. As the championship continues, the number of local players who play regularly will decrease. In the match against Iceland, we saw that abolishing the limit is not a beneficial decision for us. Not only the national team, but the U-21 team could only withstand one half in the game against Portugal. The players there are not key members of their own teams. In the match against Ukraine, we would like to see a good game, but the motivation of our players is also low, and therefore I do not expect a successful result. You can only achieve something through character. This is the responsibility of the players, the coach does not play a role."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan vs. Ukraine match will take place on September 9 at 20:00 at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium.
