An interview with Ivan Brkic, former goalkeeper of "Neftchi", to Telegraf
- How are things going in the "Motor" team: Have you achieved your goals as a football player?
- I am very happy in "Motor". The Polish Ekstraklasa is at a good level. Of course, I also have personal goals, but I live every day as it is, that's all! Here I have a good time both in terms of football and in my personal life with my family.
- After leaving "Neftchi", do you still keep in touch with your former teammates?
- I am in contact with Eddi Israfilov almost every day. Both our and our families' relations are good. He is my lifelong friend. Also, I still talk to footballers Emin Mahmudov, Rahman Hajiyev and Rza Jafarov. I also have contact with doctors Shaig Zohrabl and Rasim Gadmaliyev, translator Vugar Aliyev and team manager Gadir Hasanov. I love these people very much and I will never forget them. Whenever we talk, when we hear from each other, when we remember some moments from the past, I am always happy.
- Do you miss Azerbaijan and have you received any new offers from here?
- I really enjoyed my time there. I love and respect Azerbaijan. I haven't spoken to anyone lately. But if I get an offer and it is satisfactory, I will gladly talk about it. I had a very good experience there and only positive memories.
- Renat Dadashov, a member of the Azerbaijani national team, has transferred to the "Motor" club. Did you know him before?
- We met once in Baku when I played for "Neftchi". He is a friend of Eddi. That's why I already had a lot of information about him.
- Did Dadashov ask you anything before the transfer?
- I conveyed some of the necessary information to him through Eddi.
- Have you watched "Neftchi"'s games last season?
- I watched quite a few games. It is clear that this is not the real "Neftchi" and better results are expected from the club. There have been many changes in recent years. However, every change takes time. The club needs stability and you can't make so many changes so often, both in terms of head coach and players. I believe that everything will go for the better.
- You played for "Neftchi" under the leadership of Samir Abasov. How would you characterize him as a head coach?
- I have a positive opinion about Abasov. I don't think he should have been removed from the head coach position at that time. We were in second place and I think the situation could have improved further. Because there wouldn't be any serious changes. But fate, he is with "Neftchi" again.
- Abasov is currently forming a new squad in "Neftchi". Do you think this team can fight for the championship next season?
- It is difficult to give a definite answer to this question. For this, I have to watch "Neftchi"'s games. But I hope they succeed. I wish them all the best.
- Have any football players received information from you about "Neftchi" or the Azerbaijani championship?
- Several football players have asked me about this. As I said, I had a great time in Azerbaijan and I only have positive thoughts about this country.
- Do you talk to Dadashov about Azerbaijan and are you thinking of visiting here with him?
- Yes, we talk, sometimes I miss it a little. Who knows, maybe we will play in Azerbaijan again (laughs - ed.).
