The Icelandic national team has already arrived in Baku. The team will face our national team on November 13 as part of the qualifying round of the World Championship to be held next year. Sport24.az reports that assistant head coach David Snorri Younsson told Fotbolti.net in a statement that this game is considered by the management and players as a key match in the fight for a place in the play-off stage.
Younsson emphasized that the first day after arriving in Baku was dedicated to the recovery process, as the players arrived by different routes and with different loads. The team's full training is scheduled to begin after the adaptation period, and the entire preparation process is aimed at the game to be held in Baku.
The Icelandic expert also shared his impressions about the capital of Azerbaijan and the created conditions:
"Baku is really a very beautiful city, there is a special atmosphere here. Good conditions have been created for us, there is every opportunity to prepare calmly for an important game. The team feels comfortable on the road, which helps to focus on football."
He added that most of the players gathered in good shape after club games. Only one player has a minor injury problem. In general, the team is fully prepared for the crucial game.
Touching on the sports side, the assistant head coach reminded that Iceland is preparing for this game based on the results of the previous match with Azerbaijan (5:0):
"We try to improve something in every match. We had already received some answers in the game with Azerbaijan, and now we are adding new details and preparing our tactical solutions," said Younsson.
The expert also emphasized that high competition within the team and strong trust between the players are maintained:
"Our squad is deep and balanced, a strong core has formed in the team. Although we are not the biggest country, we have good players and we think broadly. We have a clear goal and the game in Baku is an important part of this path," the Icelandic coach concluded.
It should be noted that the match between the national teams of Azerbaijan and Iceland will be held on Thursday and will start at 21:00 Baku time.
