"Azerbaijan has a very good league, your championship features very strong teams like Sabah and Qarabag".
This was stated by former Karvan-Yevlakh midfielder Vitor Rocha in an interview with futbolinfo.az.
We present that interview.
– Why did your career at Karvan-Yevlakh last only 6 months?
– To be honest, everything went wrong from the very beginning. I broke my arm in the first friendly game, and when I returned to the lineup, the team was not showing good results and play. The team's playing style didn't really suit me either. Sometimes it happens, everything doesn't always go the way we want.
– You recently signed a contract with Iceland's Vestmannaeyjar club. Did you have any other offers? Why did you prefer to go to Iceland?
– I had other offers, but I chose Iceland. It is a very high-quality league and the country is magnificent.
– What do you think about the Azerbaijan league? How does our championship differ from other leagues? What are its positive and negative aspects?
– Azerbaijan has a very good league, your championship features very strong teams like Sabah and Qarabag. They can easily compete at the Champions League or Europa League level. I think it would be better if there was more balance in the league. Currently, there is a big difference between the first four teams and the others.
– Karvan-Yevlakh, who lost 0:7 to Qarabag in the reporting round, has been in the last place in the tournament table for a long time. What are the main reasons for the unsuccessful performance? What do you think is missing in the team?
– I think Karvan-Yevlakh was not ready to play in the top league. It is true that it is one of the teams with the best fans, but the club's structure does not help at all. There needs to be more people who understand football within the club. In the end, the players suffer because they try to do their best from the beginning. But in such circumstances, it is very difficult.
– It's as if you regret playing for Karvan-Yevlakh…
– No, I don't regret crossing paths with Karvan-Yevlakh. It was a learning experience for me. I wish the club all the best. I hope they can fix the situation.
– Your compatriot Pedro Mateus, who plays for Karvan-Yevlakh, has made a lot of saves this season. Will you try to take him with you in the summer? Have you had such a conversation?
– Pedro and I have become very good friends. To be honest, in my opinion, he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Azerbaijan championship. I think it will not be difficult for Mateus to find a better club for himself.
