"Before the game, we all knew that the match would be difficult. The burden was felt on "Qarabag". Nevertheless, the players and coaching staff managed to rally the team and came out on the field according to the game plan. It was clear that the necessary points and important episodes were analyzed correctly during the preparation process."
These words were said by Elshad Ahmadov, the former head coach of "Qarabag", while talking about the Agdam club's 3:2 victory over the German team "Eintracht" in Baku in the seventh round of the main stage of the UEFA Champions League.
According to him, in the last 15 minutes of the match, there was a feeling of despair among the fans:
"There was a change of coach in "Eintracht" and it was not known in advance what tactics and system they would use on the field. The game started with the advantage of our representative. Despite conceding an early goal, only a short-term decline was felt in the team after that episode," he said in a statement to AZERTAC.
The expert stated that the Swiss head referee of the match, Sandro Scherer, made unfair decisions:
"The penalty episode appointed by the referee is a separate topic of discussion. It must be stated clearly that this was a non-existent penalty. As President Ilham Aliyev also emphasized, the question arises: where did the referee see that penalty decision, how did he think and on what basis did he give it? Unfortunately, this is not the first time we have faced such unfair decisions against "Qarabag". But despite all this, our players showed true character. Especially in the last minutes of the game, the aggression, desire and belief shown on the field were clearly visible. Moreover, before that episode, a similar situation happened to "Qarabag" player Kamilo Durana. If the penalty given is correct, then what was that episode in favor of our team? Why wasn't a penalty awarded there? Such moments should be seriously investigated."
E. Ahmadov emphasized that it was felt that the Agdam club was able to turn this game around in the last four minutes:
"The team had real pressure and attacking energy. Although Bahlul is a defender, he left his position and joined the attack, and then scored a goal in the last minutes. This was the best indicator of the team's determination. This victory was the result that "Qarabag" deserved. Frankly, we haven't seen such character, such a comeback for many years. I thank our team for giving us this joy."
It should be noted that after this result, "Qarabag" is in the 18th place in the tournament table with 10 points, and "Eintracht" with 4 points is in the 33rd place. The Azerbaijani champion will play its last match against "Liverpool" in England on January 29.
