"Barcelona", "Real Madrid" and the "A22" company, representing the Super League, have been holding secret talks for the past eight months and have submitted a final proposal to UEFA regarding changes to the Champions League format.
İdman.biz reports this with reference to "Mundo Deportivo".
According to the proposal, the 36 teams competing in the tournament will be divided into two groups. The first will include teams with high UEFA rankings, which should increase the number of matches involving top clubs. The top eight teams in this group will advance directly to the 1/8 finals. The second eight and the top eight teams in the second group will play in play-off matches.
The games are planned to be broadcast either free with advertising or on a paid basis on a new streaming platform.
The new Champions League is expected to start in 2027, with the start of a new phase of the tournament's television rights.
