Chelsea and Argentina national team midfielder Enzo Fernandez spoke about the prospects of the 2026 World Cup for his team and his desire to become the captain of La Albiceleste. Sport24.az reports that he stated this in an interview with TyC Sports:
"Of course, I dream about it. Wearing the captain's armband would be an honor for me, but it doesn't depend on me. It's the decision of the coaching staff. I don't know when that will happen. Time will tell. We are focused on what awaits us. We know that this could be Messi's last World Cup, so we will do everything we can to defend his title. Our team must do this. Argentinians are very passionate and always want more."
It should be noted that the 2026 World Cup will be held next summer in three countries - USA, Canada and Mexico. Argentina is the current champion. The South American representative faced France in the final of the 2022 World Cup. Although the main time of the game ended with a score of 3:3, the Argentinians were stronger in the penalty shootout (4:2).
