Interview with David Tomas, the new Brazilian transfer of "Shamakhi", to futbolinfo.az
– How did your transfer to "Shamakhi" happen? Who did you consult with when you received the offer, and what attracted you?
– I was very happy when I learned about this offer, about the interest in me from Azerbaijan. It was an opportunity to play in a competitive championship, in one of the teams with its own traditions in the country. I thought it was necessary to take advantage of this opportunity.
– What information did you have about Azerbaijani football before signing a contract with "Shamakhi"?
– Frankly, I didn't follow Azerbaijani football closely. But I had teammates who played here, and they always spoke highly of this championship. Playing in the Azerbaijan Premier League is a good opportunity for those who want to advance in their careers, and that is my main goal.
– How were you received in your new team? How is the adaptation process going?
– All my teammates and coaching staff welcomed me very well. We have both a pleasant and demanding environment. This will help us have a great season.
– In the preparation process for the new season, you lost 1:2 in a test match with "Gabala", and you scored the only goal for "Shamakhi". What are your impressions of the match and the goal you scored? Considering that you are a defender, do you have many goals in your career?
– It was our first pre-season test match. I think this meeting gave hope for the future, we are developing as a team. As for the goal I scored, my main priority is to prevent the opponent from getting the ball through our goal. But scoring goals always makes me happy. So far, I have been able to distinguish myself in every season of my career. I hope to continue the successful streak in the new season as well.
– "Shamakhi" finished 7th among 10 teams in the league last season. Will it be possible to achieve a better result in the new season, which will be held with the participation of 12 teams?
– I believe we can do it. If we continue to work hard and focus all our attention on football, we can achieve great success. We have a young team that wants to develop and a coaching staff that spares no help to us. That's why I think we're on the right track.
– There are quite a few quality strikers in the Azerbaijani championship, especially foreign forwards. Does this scare you? Will you be able to be an "impassable barrier" in the defense line of "Shamakhi"?
– The presence of quality strikers in the league gives me extra motivation. I have an ambition to play in big championships, so I enjoy playing against the best. You can expect great determination and responsibility from me. I will do everything I can to help "Shamakhi".
