"When the offer came, there was already a possibility of playing in the group stage. I believed in that."
This was stated by Qarabag's Brazilian defender Dani Bolt in an interview with the Brazilian publication Lance.
We present that interview.
– You played in the Champions League in your first season with Qarabag. What were your impressions?
– Playing in the Champions League is a great experience, it is the dream of every football player. I always watched it on television and imagined myself at this level - facing big teams like Liverpool and Chelsea. Hearing the anthem and being in that moment was special for me.
– What impressed you the most?
– Playing in the Champions League for the first time changes everything, it becomes the main topic at home. Everyone asks you how you feel. The atmosphere is impressive – the fans, the stadium, everything. But when the game starts, it's 11 against 11. We focus on our game and believe that we can compete with any opponent. It is no coincidence that we drew with Chelsea.
– Can qualifying for the play-off stage be considered the most memorable moment?
– We knew we were close to qualifying for the play-offs. But when we really understood it, when the eliminated teams were announced and we saw that we had advanced, we had great feelings. This is a special experience that every footballer wants to live.
– How much did this team's participation in the Champions League play a role in your decision to accept Qarabag's offer?
– When the offer came, there was already a possibility of playing in the group stage. I believed in that. In addition to career development, I wanted to play at this level. That's what made me accept this challenge.
– During the game against Liverpool, your sincere conversation with the opponent's goalkeeper Alisson Becker caught our attention. What were you talking about at that time?
– I spoke with Alisson because I had played with his brother Muriel at Fluminense. We talked at half-time, I told him that I played with his brother. He also gave me his signed jersey. I thanked him. He was one of the people I talked to.
– What are your impressions of Azerbaijani football?
– The Azerbaijani championship is developing and attracting attention. Many football players ask what it is like here before receiving an offer. Qarabag helps to promote the country's name. It is not yet as well known as Brazil, but there is development.
– How has adapting to a new culture and football environment positively impacted your career?
– In addition to the Champions League, living in another culture and in a different football environment is a great experience. It adds a lot. But regardless of the tournament, the mindset is the same - to fight and win in every game.
