"My best memories are related to the time I played for Neftchi. Our team was great, everyone understood each other very well on the field."
This was stated in an interview with futbolinfo.az by Bruno Bertucci, the former Brazilian defender of "Neftchi".
We present that interview.
– Where do you live now and what do you do? Are you involved in football?
– I live in Santo Andre, in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In addition to managing football schools, I also work as a coach.
– Do you follow your former club "Neftchi"? What can you say about the current situation of the team?
– I haven't followed "Neftchi" closely for a while now. Sometimes I just look at the results and who the champion is.
– In recent years, the management of "Neftchi" has often changed head coaches. For about two months, the "white-blacks" have been led by a new coach, Yuri Vernidub. Do you think the Ukrainian specialist will be able to restore "Neftchi" to its former glory?
– Frequent changes of coaches hinder the formation of the team's identity and playing style. I don't know the current coach. Therefore, I cannot comment on this.
– In the period you played, "Neftchi" was very strong. But in the last 10 years, your former team has only been champion once. What do you see as the reason for this failure?
– We really had a strong, champion team. The squad had talented football players with a winning spirit. That was the reason why we made history. Since I don't follow football now, I can't comment on why "Neftchi" no longer plays a leading role and does not win titles.
– Do you consider your years at "Neftchi" the most successful period of your football career? Are there people from that team that you still keep in touch with today?
– My best memories are related to the time I played for "Neftchi". Our team was great, everyone understood each other very well on the field. We ran for each other, fought to the end. We were really very dangerous for our opponents. We made history and became one of the best teams of all time. From that squad, I mostly keep in touch with Kaue and Flavinho. Sometimes we also talk to Denis Silva, Rodriguinho, Eric Ramos and Nicolas Canales.
– In recent years, "Qarabağ" has dominated Azerbaijani football. How do you assess the performance of this team?
– "Qarabağ" is doing incredible things. The proof of this is not only the local championship, but also their equal level of competition with the continent's big clubs in European tournaments. Undoubtedly, organization, infrastructure, finance and technical management together create excellent conditions for football players to achieve these achievements. Success would not be possible without these factors together.
– Can we see you as a coach in the Azerbaijani championship in the future?
– I can't say anything about that. But as a tourist and a "Neftchi" fan, I would be happy to return to Azerbaijan and bring my daughter with me.
