A referee who took a bribe from the Azerbaijani owner of a football club has been detained in Russia.
Lent.az reports with reference to local media that the bribery incident occurred in November 2023, during the match between "Alania" and "Khimki" teams.
Irina Volk, an official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that the chief referee of the game received a bribe of 2 million rubles from the management of "Khimki", which represents the Moscow region.
The game ended with a 4:1 victory for "Khimki".
It should be noted that at that time the owner of "Khimki" was Azerbaijani businessman Tufan Sadigov. He is currently a shareholder of the "Serik Belediyespor" club in Turkey.
