"In September, we are waiting for the qualifying matches of the World Championship. These are the last friendly matches." These words were said by the former coach of the Azerbaijani national team, Arif Asadov, in an interview with Sport24.az.
The expert shared his thoughts on the matches that the national team will play against Latvia on June 7 and Hungary in Baku on June 10:
"Hungary can be considered one of the average national teams. Latvia is a team at our level. Although the result is not important in friendly matches, it is necessary to take into account the current situation of the national team. We haven't won for a long time. The last victory was over Kazakhstan in June. A year has already passed since then. Therefore, a successful result is important in terms of improving the mood, psychological state of the national team and restoring confidence in the team. I think it is necessary to achieve results in these meetings. I wish our team success."
Asadov said that head coach Fernando Santos has been with the team for a long time:
"He has almost reviewed the candidates he has been following and can form the optimal team in these two matches."
It should be noted that Arif Asadov led the team in the match where the Azerbaijani national team defeated Kazakhstan 3:2 on June 11, 2024.
