Some time ago, Aleksandr Samedov was one of the most famous and beloved football players in Russia. Regardless of the club he played for, he gained the sympathy of the fans. Despite representing another country in the national team, Samedov also had special sympathy in Azerbaijan.
Idman.biz presents an exclusive interview with Aleksandr Samedov to its readers:
– Where does one of the best football players of Russia in the recent past, who played in almost all the leading clubs of the capital, currently work?
– I have been working at the Fakel club in Voronezh, which is located 500 kilometers from Moscow, for four years now.
– So, couldn't a job be found in Moscow itself for a Russian football legend?
– The main thing for me is to do what I love. It doesn't matter where I am.
– You haven't come to Azerbaijan for a long time. What's stopping you?
– Work. I would very much like to come to Baku, at least for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, but it didn't work out. The last time I was there was at the Europa League final between Chelsea and Arsenal. I haven't been there since, but I definitely intend to come.
– What impressions did your trip to Baku six years ago leave on you?
– First of all, beauty! It's a magnificent city! And Icherisheher is unforgettable in general. It is very gratifying that you have preserved the history as it is. The people were also very friendly.
– However, during your conversation with Arif Asadov at the Legends Cup held in Moscow recently, you said that you are not very loved in Azerbaijan...
– Oh, that was a long time ago (laughs). When I played for the Russian national team, we faced Azerbaijan. We even had a small incident with Rashad Sadigov. The fans were also booing me. But that's all in the past. Then, when I came as a guest to the Europa League final, the atmosphere was completely different.
– What do you remember about the food? I know there are enough Azerbaijani restaurants in Moscow, but still...
– The most delicious dolma is in Azerbaijan! I love it very much. But the tomatoes surprised me a little. I thought they would be very tasty, as everyone praises them, but they were not what I expected.
– Because our best tomatoes are often sent to Moscow. Especially those grown in Zira. By the way, the head coach of the Zira club is Rashad Sadigov, you probably know him well...
– Really? I didn't know that. Next time I come, I can specifically ask for Zira tomatoes to be served (laughs).
– When are you planning your next trip?
– I will definitely come to Azerbaijan in the warm season – either in spring or summer. My dream is to go to Ganja with my family and see my great-grandfather's house and visit his grave. I am sure this trip will happen.
– Then we are looking forward to it! We hope to continue our conversation in Baku already.
– Thank you very much, we will definitely continue…
