Speaking about the temporary head coach change in the Azerbaijani national team, the experienced specialist noted that Aykhan Abbasov can be kept in the team: "Among the foreign coaches who came here, I only learned some things from Berti Vogts. I didn't see anything superior to us in any other coach. We have coaches working here. But they don't believe in them. Now they have temporarily appointed Aykhan Abbasov as the head coach. That's great. He is a young coach. If our national team achieves a good result in today's game with Ukraine, why not continue with Aykhan? Aykhan also works in "Shamakhi", in U-21, and now he has become the head coach of the main national team (laughs). But I think that the head coach of the national team should be free. That is, he should not work in a club so that he can give his full strength to the national team."
Mirjavadov also spoke about AFFA's dismissal of Fernandu Santuş. He said that this decision was made a little late: "But returning from half the mistake is a great thing. Look where and how Santuş worked. He was dismissed from several places before coming to our national team. We need a coach who puts his heart into the work, is businesslike, and knows how to find a common language with the players. It is necessary to create a system. Without a system, nothing can be done."
So who is the local coach that the 78-year-old expert wants to see in the national team? Mirjavadov said: "We have local coaches, they can work. I don't want to mention their names, but there are. I really liked one sentence of Aykhan. He said that it is an honor to take on this burden. At that time, when we gained new independence, some coaches refused to work in the national team. Because there were no conditions. But I did not hesitate. Because for me it is a great honor to work in the national team. I think this is the case for every Azerbaijani coach. Because we are children of Azerbaijan, we must serve our country. There are several other options besides Aykhan, but you have to believe in them."
"I should also say that our national team is in a very difficult situation now. Old players are playing their last games in the national team. There are such players in every position. The quality of young players is not as desired, it needs to be increased. We have said this many times that it happens in clubs."
Experts such as Gurban Gurbanov, Rashad Sadigov, Aykhan Abbasov, Samir Abasov, Tarlan Ahmadov and Azer Bagirov are nominated by the football community as the main candidates for the national team. A.Mirjavadov said that this list can be expanded: "I would also add Shahin Diniyev and Mahmud Gurbanov here. Even if he is not the head coach, Mahmud should be used as an assistant coach. It only remains to believe."
The former coach of the Azerbaijani national team also said that he does not understand AFFA's choice of foreign coach: "When a foreign specialist is brought in, I myself am amazed. A lot of money goes to such coaches. I still don't remember an Azerbaijani coach asking for compensation. We have another pride, character. A foreign coach pays attention to every detail when signing a contract. I often didn't even read the contract, I just signed it. I don't know if I'm doing it right or they are. But everything must be mutual. That is, local coaches should also be treated correctly. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is important to believe. It has been like this from the very beginning. They always see that what we say comes true. There are many events, but I don't want to talk. Because years have passed."
