Azerbaijani chess player Khagan Ahmad is among the leaders at the traditional "Baku Open" festival being held in the capital these days.
According to Idman.Biz, after six rounds, Ahmad has 5 points and shares 1-5 places, but is in fifth place based on additional indicators.
He won against Azerbaijani chess player Suleyman Suleymanli in the sixth round.
It should be noted that Ahmad, a protege of one of Azerbaijan's leading grandmasters, Shahriyar Mammadyarov, is one of the few local chess players without a draw.
Tunar Davudov's performance is also noteworthy. He scored 4.5 points and is in sixth place. In the fifth round, he defeated strong Russian chess player Polina Shuvalova, who is competing under a neutral status.
On the other hand, Nijat Abasov, who recently won a silver medal at the individual European Championship, is not performing so successfully at the Baku tournament yet. The chess player, who scored four points, is in 17th place.
The most titled participant of the tournament, former FIDE world champion Ruslan Ponomariov, scored 4.5 points and is in the group close to the leaders, in 9th place. In addition to Khagan Ahmad, three Indian and one Iranian chess player are also in the leading group.
It should be noted that the Baku tournament will last until May 6 and consists of a total of nine rounds.
