Former basketball player of the Azerbaijani national team, Zaur Pashayev, wants to work as a head coach.
The 42-year-old player said that he did not play badly in the current season as part of the "Quba" team.
"I think I can play for another season. But I want to work as a head coach. If there is a good offer, I am ready to work as a head coach. It will be clear at the end of May, beginning of June. If not, I can play for another year. I worked as a second coach two years ago. It's time to work as a head coach. There is no difficult job here. Last year I wanted to work as an assistant to head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis in "Sabah". He is a very experienced specialist and has a rich career. But I continued my career. The coaching staff in this team was already formed," he told report.az in an interview.
Z. Pashayev also touched upon the games they lost to "Shaki" in the play-in stage of the Azerbaijan Basketball League:
"The opponent competed in group A, and we competed in group B. Their budget is relatively larger, their players are of higher quality. Nevertheless, we performed well in the regular season. I wanted us to face "Nakhchivan" in the play-in. We were 3 points ahead of them in the regular season, but they overtook us at the last moment. They took the last game with us into overtime, and then lost in that match. We could have fought with them in the play-in. We have always played head-to-head. "Shaki", on the other hand, faced teams such as "Sabah", "Absheron Lions" and "Neftchi" during the season. We also had almost no reserve players. The quality of the basketball players was also felt. In short, it didn't work out. We couldn't bring it to the end."
It should be noted that "Quba" lost both games against "Shaki" in the play-in stage - 89:101, 77:120.
