The name of the new head coach of the "Neftchi" men's basketball club has been clarified.
Idman.biz reports that Vitali Stepanovski, the former head coach of the Ukrainian national team, has been brought "behind the wheel" of the silver medalist of the Azerbaijan Basketball League.
A 1-year contract has been signed with the 43-year-old specialist. His main goal is to perform successfully in the group stage of the European Cup and in the national championship.
The Ukrainian, who left the post of head coach of the national team after the failure at EURO-2025, has been unemployed since December 2024. Under Stepanovski's leadership, the "Khimik" (Yuzhny) club won the Ukrainian championship twice. He also coached Romania's "Craiova" and Estonia's "Parnu" teams.
It should be noted that "Neftchi" finished the season under the leadership of Georgian coach Daviti Chivchivadze.
The "white-blacks" are in Group I of the regular championship of the European Cup. The Baku representative will compete with "Kalev/Kramo" (Estonia), "Bursaspor" (Turkey) and "Trefl" (Poland) for the next stage.
