"Sərhədçi"'s head coach: "We played very weakly in the last game and lost"

"We played the play-off matches with only one point guard." Sport24.az reports that this was stated by Evren Alkaya, the head coach of "Sərhədçi", in a statement to the club's press service.

The Turkish specialist spoke about their defeat to "Sabah" in the second game of the play-offs in the Azerbaijan Basketball League: "Antonio had to leave the country due to family reasons. It's difficult with only one point guard. In the first match, we played well against "Sabah" for 3 periods. We just couldn't resist the opponent in the 4th quarter. Knowing this well, "Sabah" started the second game with aggressive defense. Unfortunately, we didn't perform well in defense, and because we couldn't get the rebounds, we allowed the opponent to score points from the second chance. We said goodbye to the league in the way we wanted".

Alkaya also assessed the team's performance this season: "As a result, our team did not play badly this season. We were able to show a good game. It's just that winning is the most important thing. I thank the managers and players who supported us this season, and I wish everyone success. In the play-in, we had to play 3 matches with the team that plays fast basketball in the second group. We played the 4th game against "Sabah" in 8 days. At this level, it is very difficult for players to play so many matches in a short period of time, there is fatigue. Of course, this also affected our games. We came out very weak in the last match and lost. I wish everyone success in the next season".

It should be noted that "Sərhədçi" lost to "Sabah" with a score of 77:104.
