The National Basketball Association (NBA) Board of Governors has unanimously approved the sale of the controlling interest in the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter.
İdman.Biz reports this with reference to a statement released by the organization's press service.
"Mark Walter has been associated with our league for many years, serving as a minority owner of the Lakers and majority owner of the WNBA's Sparks for over a decade. As Mark assumes the role of majority owner of the Lakers, he will undoubtedly be a loyal supporter of the team and a great addition to our league, given his many successful projects in business and sports," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in a press statement commenting on the board's decision.
According to US media reports, the deal will cost Walter $10 billion, making it the most expensive sale in American professional sports history.
Walter has been a shareholder in the Los Angeles club since 2021. It should be noted that in May 2022, Mark and his partners bought the Chelsea football club.
