Influential insider Shams Charania has revealed the steps the NBA is taking to address the issue of illegal gambling.
According to İdman.Biz, it was previously reported that Miami Heat player Terry Rozier, Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, and former player Damon Jones were arrested by the FBI in connection with illegal gambling.
This has raised questions about the NBA's ties to various betting houses. Charania shared the league's statement on his social media page.
"The NBA has informed all 30 teams that it is reviewing the league's injury reporting policy. It also stated that it has begun a training and preparation process for all personnel and is strengthening internal and external monitoring programs to identify suspicious betting activity.
The memorandum also notes: "While unusual bets on Terry Rozier in March 2023 were detected in real time because they were placed legally, we believe that more can be done from a legal and regulatory perspective to protect the integrity of the NBA and our affiliated leagues. Betting on individual player performance raises higher questions about the integrity of the game and requires additional oversight," Charania wrote in his post.
