Carvis Garrett has been one of the most notable foreign players in the Azerbaijan basketball season. He helped "Ganja" win the national cup and reach the semi-finals of the championship.
The American basketball player gave an interview to Idman.Biz about his performance in the Azerbaijan league.
– How would you rate the past season and your personal performance in terms of results?
– I think we had a pretty good year. Of course, you always want more, especially when you see that the team is capable of fighting for the highest places. We won the cup, and this is an important achievement for both the club and the city. Regarding my game, I can say that in every match I tried to benefit my teammates, help both in attack and defense. But I am always demanding of myself and I think I can play at a higher level.
– In the cup final, "Ganja" defeated "Sabah", but in the championship semi-final, the advantage was on the opponent's side. Apparently, the team did not have enough strength to resist the league favorite on an equal footing?
– "Sabah" is a very strong team, with quality players and a lot of experience. In the cup final, we showed character and played almost an ideal game. But the championship series is a completely different test. It is possible that towards the end of the season there was a certain lack of depth in the squad and physical freshness. Nevertheless, I think that our team fought with dignity and showed that it can compete with any opponent.
– How would you rate the level of the championship?
– Frankly, the level of the championship pleasantly surprised me. There are many quality foreign players, good coaches in the league, and the games are held in a highly competitive environment. I also liked the attitude of the fans towards basketball – people really care about their teams and support them. I was also impressed by how professionally the organization of the games and the infrastructure around the championship are built.
– Do you think that "Ganja" has fully realized its potential, or can we expect a new leap next season?
– I think the team still has enough potential for further development. We have already taken a serious step and proved that we can really fight for trophies. If the team's core is preserved and some positions are strengthened purposefully, "Ganja" can become even stronger next season. The club has both the ambition and the motivation to continue moving forward.
– What are your next plans for your career?
– I am currently resting and recovering after a tough season. This is the most suitable time to spend time with family and recharge my batteries. After that, I will consider the options. Of course, it is important for me to be involved in a project with high goals and a desire to win. Time will tell what the off-season will bring.
