The Azerbaijani women's national basketball team cannot compete head-to-head with its rivals.
This was stated by the head coach of the team, Evren Alkaya, in an interview with "Report".
He briefly explained the reason for the team's big losses to its rivals in the qualifying round of the European Championship:
"I will talk in detail after the match against Ukraine. But briefly, I must say that we cannot compete head-to-head with our rivals. Because our basketball players are also young. They are all players of the U-18, U-19 national teams. I plan to give a bigger statement after the meeting with Ukraine. Anyway, the story of each match is almost the same."
It should be noted that in the qualifying round of the European Championship, which will be held in 2027, the Azerbaijani national team lost both games to Bulgaria (48:141, 40:120) and Montenegro (62:104, 35:94), as well as Ukraine (34:98).
