Azerbaijan's basketball club "Absheron Lions" will participate in European cups for the first time.
Idman.biz reports that the team will play its first game in the qualifying round of the FIBA Europe Cup (the second most prestigious tournament among club competitions of the international federation) against the Cypriot club "Anorthosis" on September 24 in Baku, at the Sports Palace. The match will start at 19:00 Baku time.
As expected, the favorite of the meeting is the Cypriot representative with European experience. "Absheron" is making its debut season. The "lions", who took 4th place in the Azerbaijan Basketball League last season, retained the main squad during the summer break, and at the same time strengthened by transferring several legionnaires and young local basketball players.
It should be noted that the return match will take place on October 1 in Limassol. For this reason, it is important for "Absheron" to win confidently in Baku, because it will be difficult to play in Cyprus with the support of rival fans.
Let us remind you that in the upcoming season, 3 Azerbaijani clubs will compete in European cups for the first time: along with "Absheron", "Neftchi" will play in the main stage of the FIBA Europe Cup, and "Sabah" will play in the group of the FIBA Champions League.
