"Absheron Lions" intends to win against "Anorthosis" in the European Cup qualification

An interview with Erhan Toker, head coach of the "Absheron Lions" team, which will represent Azerbaijan in the European Basketball Cup in the new season, to AZERTAC

- How is your preparation for the new season going?

- Everything is fine. Not all the staff is in Baku right now. Three basketball players will join the team. Two of them will be legionnaires, the other will be a local player. We will slowly start to get to know the team.

- "Absheron Lions" will participate in the European Cup for the first time in its history. In the first qualifying round of the tournament, the team will face the Cypriot club "Anorthosis". How do you assess the chances?

- "Anorthosis" is one of the strongest clubs in Cyprus. True, it has not yet completed its staff. There are currently three legionnaires in the team. Another foreigner is expected to be transferred. Their budgets are not that high. We want to do our best and pass the stage. We have a good team.

- Are new transfers expected?

- Not yet. But in the future we are thinking of transferring another legionnaire. I am satisfied with the current players.

- What will be your main goal in the new season of the Azerbaijan Basketball League (ABL)?

- As you know, we were fourth last year. This season our goal is to reach the play-offs and do our best. Obri Makelpin and Jaylen Shaw, who played for our team last season, will be with us this year as well. They know the League well.

- What can you say about the level of ABL?

- The League is developing year by year. There is a strong team like "Sabah" in the championship. NTD is also a good team. The regional clubs "Shaki" and "Ganja" fought well last year.
