Azerbaijani Para-badminton players secured at least a bronze medal in the semi-finals of the European Championship

Two Azerbaijani para-badminton players have qualified for the semi-finals of the European Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.

Idman.biz reports that young Paralympian Zahra Salmanli competed with her British teammate Kristen Coombs in the mixed doubles competition (SH-6 category), where male and female athletes compete together.

They won their first victory in the group stage by defeating their Turkish opponents 2:0 (Sudenaz Şanlı, Ali Altıparmak), but lost their second match 1:2 to the Scottish and Polish duo (Andreu Davies, Darija Bujnika).

Z.Salmanli and K.Coombs defeated their French opponents (Maksim Greboval, Pauline Pelle) 2:1 in the 1/4 finals and qualified for the semi-finals of the European Championship. Thus, they have secured at least a bronze medal for themselves.

20-year-old young para-badminton player Ibrahim Aliyev repeated the same success. Ibrahim Aliyev competed with his Polish teammate Bartlomiej Mroz in the mixed doubles competition (SU-5 category), where male athletes compete together.

They won their first victory in the group stage by defeating their British opponents 2:0 (Antoni Forster, Cack Isaacs), but lost their second match 0:2 to the French duo (Meril Loquette, Lukas Mazur).

In the 1/4 finals, I.Aliyev and B.Mroz took revenge for their defeat against the French opponents in the group, winning 2:1 and qualifying for the semi-finals of the European Championship. Thus, they have secured at least a bronze medal for themselves.

It should be noted that the semi-final matches will take place tomorrow.
