The Azerbaijan Swimming Championship, jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation (ASF), has started.
Idman.Biz reports that athletes representing various cities and clubs of the country competed in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and medley styles at the competition held at the Baku Aquatics Palace. The competition is held both individually and in relay. The following results were recorded on the first day:
Women:
400 meters medley – Sofia Hajiyeva (gold medal), Sofia Medvedeva (silver medal);
800 meters freestyle – Maryam Javadova (gold medal), Alexandra Slepenko (silver medal), Leyla Abdulazizova (bronze medal);
1500 meters freestyle – Vlastilina Khasyanova (gold medal), Alexandra Slepenko (silver medal), Deniz Topchubashova (bronze medal);
Men:
400 meters medley – Ogtay Huseynov (gold medal), Farhad Shirmammadli (silver medal), Timur Nikiforov (bronze);
800 meters freestyle – Suleyman Ismayilzade (gold medal), Yegor Maynitsky (silver medal), Farhad Shirmammadli (bronze medal);
1500 meters freestyle – Suleyman Ismayilzade (gold medal), Amin Oruclu (silver medal), Teyyub Hasanov (bronze medal);
After the competitions, an award ceremony was held. The athletes were presented with awards by ASF Secretary General Ogtay Atayev, Sports Director Pierre Lafontaine, Advisor Rashad Abdurrahmanov, Head Coach of the national swimming team Luka Gabrillo, Secretary General of the Championship Rashad Aliyev, and Director of the Baku Aquatics Palace Ajdar Abbasov.
