The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Azerbaijan has commented on the non-admission of para-judoka İlkin Nəsibov to the European Championship.
İdman.biz reports that the press service of the organization has released information about this.
The NPC stated that it is necessary for every athlete who wants to compete in Paralympic sports to pass the medical classification of that para-sport: "Medical classification is considered a natural process, and it applies not only to Azerbaijani athletes but to all participants. Before the European Championship held in Georgia, four of our athletes participated in medical classification. A total of 8 para-judokas represented our country at the continental championship. Including three of our athletes who passed medical classification, 2 young athletes competed in the international arena for the first time. Our para-judoka Ilham Zakiyev won a gold medal and had his anthem played in Tbilisi, while Dursadaf Karimova won a silver medal. It was only revealed that İlkin Nəsibov, born in 2005, does not have sufficient visual impairment to compete in the J2 category of para-judo. Athletes with partial visual impairments compete in this category."
The organization also emphasized that the adaptation process to the updated rules regarding medical classification by the NPC is carried out with great sensitivity, all necessary steps are being taken to speed up this process, and discussions are regularly held between federations and associations in this direction: "As the NPC, we have always been in favor of transparency and will continue to take the necessary measures for the successful performance of our Paralympians in the international arena. We ask media representatives to approach such news sensitively and to take into account the Committee's position before publicizing it."
