The opening ceremony of the European Judo Cup among cadets was held in Guba.
According to the employee of "Report", who was sent to the competition, the event was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Executive Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation Rashad Rasul, Sports Commissioner of the European Judo Union (EJU) Albert Gmayner and other officials.
Rashad Rasul, Executive Vice-President of ACF, wished the athletes success and thanked the EJU for their trust: "This tournament is of particular importance for us. As the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, we are taking targeted steps to popularize judo in the regions and develop sports infrastructure. The organization of the tournament in the regions is also in line with the instructions and directions of President Ilham Aliyev regarding the development of sports in the regions."
Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov greeted the participants of the event. He reminded that three international competitions were held in the country this week: "I wish all participants success. May the strongest win."
Sports Commissioner of the European Judo Union (EJU) Albert Gmayner conveyed the greetings of EJU President Laslo Tot:
"On behalf of the entire judo family, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Azerbaijan Judo Federation for organizing this competition. The European Cup in Guba is very important in terms of geographical coverage and the development of young athletes. I am sure that in a few years we will see some of these athletes on the podium of European and world championships. I am proud to announce the Guba European Cup 2025 open."
Finally, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
It should be noted that 141 athletes (100 boys, 41 girls) represent Azerbaijan in the competition, which will end on May 4.
