Our national team's goalkeeper said: "If we want to be champions, we must beat the Romanians" - INTERVIEW

Interview with Agaseyid Gasimov, the goalkeeper of our national minifootball team, to Futbolxeber.az

- You defeated Mauritania 2:0 in the last round of the group stage. What would you say about the match?

- We knew it would be a difficult game. Therefore, we prepared seriously for the match. We were ready for everything. We won and continue on our way. Holding the World Championship in Azerbaijan is a success. We also want to give our fans the championship.

- Did the loss of points in the first game create psychological tension in the team?

- The first games are always difficult. The atmosphere in the arena also had its effect. Although we drew with Bahrain in the first match, we later recovered and became the group leader.

- Today, the 1/8 final stage starts, and in the early final our opponent is the current world champion Romania...

- Romania is indeed a very strong opponent, a world and European champion. It's a good team. Of course, it will be a difficult game. A very tense match awaits us. But if we want to be champions, we must defeat the Romanians.

- Does the home field factor create additional pressure on you?

- Playing in front of our home fans is a responsibility. We try to reciprocate their great support. We do our best to make our fans happy.

- If we eliminate Romania from the competition today, which teams could be rivals to our national team on the way to the championship?

- We can mention Serbia and Hungary. I should also say that this world championship is more difficult. All teams are showing strength.

- The Kazakhstan national team, which blocked our way in the last World and European Championships, failed to reach the 1/8 finals and remained in the group. Can this be considered additional motivation for our national team?

- We have always had difficulties in matches with the Kazakhstan national team. We lost to them in the semi-finals of the previous World Championship. Also in the 1/4 finals of the last European Championship. I believe that their staying in the group will be beneficial for us. The fact that the Kazakhs remained in the group is also an indicator of how difficult the World Championship is.
