Bob Power, the father of two-time IndyCar champion Will Power, was the victim of an armed robbery in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.
İdman.Biz reports that the 39-year-old perpetrator committed a series of crimes in the Darling Downs region over several days before being apprehended. On Saturday afternoon, he allegedly stole a silver Toyota RAV4 at gunpoint, then fired shots into the air and stole another vehicle. He then stole a third car and later a Toyota Land Cruiser.
Bob Power encountered the robber around 1:00 PM on Monday.
"I didn't want him getting in the car, so he pointed the gun at me. I said, 'don't shoot me...don't shoot me,'" Bob Power said.
Power said he had a dog inside the car and asked for time to get the dog out. According to 7NEWS, police arrived and apprehended the robber.
"It saved the car and me...it all worked out," Bob Power said.
The robber was later arrested and faces 15 charges. The court remanded him in custody.
Will Power is a two-time IndyCar champion (2014, 2022) and the 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner. This season, the 45-year-old Australian is racing for Andretti Global.
