Ukrainian football player of "Zira" Eldar Guliyev spoke about the Azerbaijan-Ukraine match, which will be held as part of the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
Idman.biz, referring to Futbolinfo.az, reports that the 23-year-old midfielder called his compatriots the favorites of the pair.
Guliyev thinks that our team has very little chance: "In home games, even if they play from defense, Azerbaijan always has opportunities, regardless of the identity of the opponent. But if the players of the Ukrainian national team do everything right, the guests should not have serious problems. I don't know what the score will be, but in terms of level, the Ukrainian national team is superior. If the home team achieves a positive result, it will look like a big sensation."
The midfielder of "Zira" does not believe that the resignation of Fernandu Santos will have a serious impact on our national team: "Santos' departure will not help the home team to perform better. But to some extent the team can get emotional energy, nothing more. It is impossible for a new coach to make radical changes in such a short time."
Guliyev, who admitted that he often receives offers from the Azerbaijani national team, said that his dream is to play for the Ukrainian national team: "I have always wanted to play for the country where I was born. Now that I play in Azerbaijan, I am often offered to change my citizenship. But I refuse. Although I understand that I still have to work hard to be needed in the Ukrainian national team."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan-Ukraine match, which will be held today at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium, will start at 20:00.
