Former Barcelona coach Xavi has revealed details of why Lionel Messi's second return to the club did not materialize. Sport24.az reports that he spoke about this in an interview with La Vanguardia:
"Messi's return to Barcelona after the 2022 World Cup was already resolved. Leo wanted to return, and we had permission from La Liga. But Laporta stopped the transfer... He told me that if Messi returns, a salary war will begin, and he cannot allow that.
Laporta will never allow Messi to return to Barcelona. It is a lie that La Liga or Leo's father asked for money in this matter. All responsibility lies with Laporta."
It should be noted that Messi currently plays for Inter Miami.
