One of the most unusual football matches in the world has set a new world record by being organized under a hot air balloon at an altitude of 1800 meters.
Idman.Biz reports that this has been recorded as the first official game under a hot air balloon in football history. The match was held on a special platform and all technical safety procedures were approved in advance.
Russian athlete Sergey Boytsov, known for his extreme projects, stated that the aim was to bring together both extreme sports and football, while also presenting the sports world with a new experience with an extraordinary record.
The platform, which took off on October 1, 2025, measured 16×10 meters and weighed 1.2 tons. It had real goals, artificial turf, and even the penalty box line was drawn. The total load exceeded 2.5 tons, including players and equipment.
To realize this engineering project, the team had to change four different project bureaus. The first experts did not believe that such a structure could take off and were reluctant to take responsibility. However, the team's persistence and professionalism resulted in the completion of 700 hours of assembly.
During test flights, the platform bent under load and the structure was strengthened after recalculations. The main problem was the weather conditions. Perfectly calm weather and low temperatures were required for this huge balloon to take off. The team waited for months to wait for the ideal moment.
The match was played according to all the rules: goals, disputes with the referees, and even a mini press conference after the final. During the approximately 1.5-hour flight, 20 balls fell into the air and scattered far away.
The achievement has also been internationally recognized.
