There have been claims in recent days that "Shamakhi" head coach Aykhan Abbasov will leave in the summer. Even the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team said at a press conference after the 27th round match with "Qarabağ" that "it is the first time I am leaving a club comfortably", which further strengthened the likelihood.
Idman.Biz, referring to futbolinfo.az, reports that the club management has already started negotiations with candidates to replace Abbasov. The regional representative is considering foreign head coaches as well as local specialists.
In order to find out who the club is negotiating with, and whether it will give preference to a foreign or local head coach, we contacted Kamran Ismayilov, the general manager of "Shamakhi". The club official, although he did not say anything specific in his response, stated that both options are possible: "There is no news yet. We talk to Aykhan every day. But we don't want to reveal it yet. I will say that the matter has not been concluded. The head coach has a contract until the end of the season. Then anything can happen. If we part ways, the new head coach could be local or foreign. It is too early to talk about it yet. It's true, they ask me if I'm negotiating with so-and-so. But everyone will know how things will be at the end of the season."
It should be noted that Aykhan Abbasov, who is also the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team, has been working in "Shamakhi" since 2024. The "Lions" are currently in eighth place in the tournament table with 32 points.
