Wayne Rooney has confessed that he believes he would not be alive today without the support of his wife Coleen during his battle with alcohol.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, on Rio Ferdinand's podcast, the former Manchester United and England striker recalled drinking for two days despite continuing to score goals on weekends.
He said that Coleen, whom he met in school and married in 2008, "helped him a lot" in controlling his behavior when his lifestyle was in danger of getting out of control.
Rooney also revealed how he tried to hide his drinking habits from Sir Alex Ferguson by chewing gum and using eye drops during training.
He said: "I genuinely believe I would have died if she wasn’t there. I saw her at 17, she knew what was going on in my head and knew I was a bit all over the place".
"I loved football, I was addicted to football, but I also loved going out. She recognised that very early on and tried to control it".
