Volkan Demirel, the head coach of "Gençlerbirliği", gave an interview to "TRT Spor". Sport24.az reports that he made sincere and interesting confessions about both his football career and the nicknames given to him.
The experienced specialist stated that he has no complexes about the nickname that has been discussed among fans for years:
"They used to call me 'Uncle' at the "Fenerbahçe" base and 'Bear' outside. Maybe it seems strange to people, but my daughters' favorite toy is a bear. My daughter even has a teddy bear named Volkan. I am very happy to be a bear and to look like a bear. Because a bear is a very strong animal."
Demirel also spoke about the former and current presidents of "Fenerbahçe", expressing his respect for them:
"The person who made me "Volkan" is Aziz Yıldırım. I always put him in my father's place. Ali Koç is the same. If one is my father, the other is my older brother."
The former goalkeeper made a special note of the 3 biggest mistakes he remembers the most among the countless goals he conceded during his career:
"I have conceded many beautiful goals in my career, but what stays in my mind are always the goals I conceded from mistakes. I can never forget three: the goal I scored into my own net in the match with "Kasımpaşa", the goal I conceded from "Galatasaray" in the episode where we collided with Edu, and the goal I conceded from the Italian national team."
