FIFA was ready to discuss the issue of Russia's return to the international arena in a private format - behind closed doors with the participation of a number of influential delegations. Sport24.az reports that this was reported by the Sport24.ru portal of our northern neighbor.
However, the meeting did not take place after a conversation between the head of the supreme football body, Gianni Infantino, and the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky.
After this call, it became known that FIFA postponed the discussion in order to prevent events and avoid creating tension.
It should be noted that after the invasion of Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA have banned Russian teams from international competitions since February 2022.
