Ukrainian national team defender Vitali Mykolenko shared his feelings after losing to Sweden in the semi-final play-off match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Sport24.az reports that the footballer made a statement to the Sportarena portal about this:
"I probably feel the same emotions as other Ukrainians who watched the game. Thank you to those who watched this disgrace to the end. I want to apologize, but there is no point in apologizing after the fight. I just wanted to thank them for watching and supporting us.
We fought in the game against Iceland, all of Ukraine supported us. We showed that we are a real team on the field. Unfortunately, it wasn't like that today. I can't explain why. Maybe it wasn't our day, but that's the situation.
There is no point in analyzing the reasons for the defeat. I won't say anything - we'll study the theory later. I'm just ashamed that we played so poorly."
It should be noted that Ukraine lost to Sweden 1:3 in yesterday's play-off match.
