Real Madrid footballer Vinicius Junior has won a court case against a businessman from La Coruña who registered a brand bearing his name in November 2018. Sport24.az reports, citing Sport.es, that the Brazilian himself registered the Vinicius Jr. trademark a year earlier.
According to the source, the defendant claimed that Vinicius was not known at the time of the application and that the brand had nothing to do with the footballer. However, the La Coruña court fully upheld the player's claim, ordering the cancellation of the brand registration and the payment of Vinicius's legal costs.
The businessman had previously indicated that the origin of the name came from the Roman Empire and his family history, but the court rejected these arguments in 2023.
