"Our team needed these kinds of games". These words were said to Sport24.az by Azerbaijani veteran footballer Vidadi Rzayev.
He shared his thoughts on the Azerbaijani national team winning the "FIFA Series 2026" international tournament:
"Even though Saint Lucia is a very small country, victory is always important. In the match against Sierra Leone, even though we were behind, we equalized and won in the penalty shootout. Of course, my wish is to play against teams stronger than ourselves".
Rzayev also touched upon the matches against Liechtenstein and Lithuania in the UEFA Nations League:
"The FIFA tournament was important for increasing the players' goal sense and desire to win. It won't always be like this... You have to play against weaker and stronger opponents. What do we expect from our national team in the Nations League? It's 3 games, what can we expect? We absolutely have to come out with a victory. Foreign coaches came to our team, left us in a bad state. Now we can achieve success with local specialists".
